Call for Submissions: Ikeja Bar Journal Invites Articles for Publication in Next Volume

The Editorial Board of the NBA Ikeja Bar Journal is pleased to announce a call for well-researched articles in diverse areas of legal practice for publication in the upcoming volume of its esteemed journal. As a peer-reviewed publication, the Ikeja Bar Journal focuses on all aspects of legal practice, including reviews of noteworthy contemporary cases and statutes. The Board invites submissions that are original manuscripts and have not been submitted elsewhere for publication. Articles with a comparative flavor in terms of jurisdictions will be given preference.

To ensure consistency and adherence to formatting guidelines, all manuscripts must be in Microsoft Word format with a font size of 12, using Times New Roman characters. The manuscripts should be typed in U.K. English and have 1.5 line spacing on A4 paper.

Referencing in the submitted articles should be done using automatic footnotes with a font size of 10. The footnotes must be numbered consecutively and comply with the Oxford University Standard for the Citation of Legal Authorities (OSCOLA) citation style, fourth edition. The OSCOLA citation style can be accessed at http://www.law.ox.ac.uk/oscola.

Articles should have a length of 15 to 20 pages, and each submission must include five to six keywords immediately after the abstract for indexing purposes.

All manuscripts will undergo blind peer review. Therefore, the names of the authors and their institutional affiliations should not be included in the body of the manuscript, except for the title. Instead, this information should be provided on the title page, which should include the title of the manuscript, the author’s name with qualifications obtained, institutional affiliation, professional and/or academic status, and email address.

The body of the manuscript should begin with an abstract of no more than 200 words, followed by the introduction.

Authors are responsible for ensuring that their submitted manuscripts do not infringe copyright, are not defamatory, obscene, unlawful, or litigious.

Page numbering should be placed at the bottom center of each page.

When citing books, the author’s surname followed by initials, title of the book (in italics), edition, place of publication, publisher, year of publication, and page number should be provided. For example: Ajayi, A.O., Principles of Natural Justice, 3rd ed., (Lagos: Springer Publishers, 1995), p. 65.

When citing journal articles, the author’s surname followed by initials, title of the article (in inverted commas), volume, number/year, journal title (in italics), and page number should be provided. For example: Ojo, J.A., “Recovery of Premises Law in Nigeria: Practice and Procedure,” vol. 12, 2021, Journal of Human Rights, p. 15.

Cases should be cited in italics within the body of the articles. Citations should be reflected in footnotes as follows: [1999] 2 NWLR (Pt.16) p. 216.

For statutes, the full name of the statutes with the year of enactment should be included. For example: Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria 1999 (as amended) Cap. C.23 Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2004.

When citing internet sources or web pages, citations should follow the conventions mentioned above for either books or articles. However, the web address and the date when the material was accessed should also be indicated.

Authors should appropriately use cross-referencing when necessary, especially when referring to previously cited works. The use of abbreviations such as “ibid,” “op cit,” and “supra” is encouraged when required.

Foreign words should be italicized for emphasis.

Quotations exceeding three lines should be indented on both sides and enclosed in either inverted commas or italics.

Contributions can be sent via email attachment in Microsoft Word or Word Perfect format to ikejabarjournal@gmail.com.

The deadline for submissions is September 30, 2023.
